Tanya aimed to portray the melancholy after celebrating the Russian New Year, which is a major family holiday in Russia but can be confusing to celebrate in the USA. The pattern on the wall is a rug of a design typical of what one may find in a Soviet Union household of Tanya's childhood and the tea cup is also a remnant of the past.
