AGAVE REACH
Francisco Letelier
Created 2020
One of several murals commissioned by the City of Los Angeles, this work calls attention to the Agave Americana or Century plant as well as other related species native to Mexico and the USA. Although called the century plant, it only lives to @ 30 years. Near the end of its life, the plant sends up a tall, branched stalk, laden with yellow blossoms, that may reach a total height up to 25–30 ft (8–9 m) tall. This plant is a keystone species providing conditions for other plants while feeding pollinators such as depicted hummingbirds and other insect and animals in its environment.
