BLUES II
Amanda Lomax
Created 2017
The Blues series is the latest in Lomax’s photographic color studies. They are a continuation of her journey into photographic Abstract Expressionism. These studies employ color to convey the emotion of the subject, in this case, the rocky coast of Maine. They depart from the style of traditional landscape photography because they are meditative rather than representative. They do not present the scene accurately in strong detail, realistic color and traditional framing. Instead they ask the viewer to contemplate the scene. Suggestions of form and washes of color are meant to inspire feeling, not report facts. Specifically these images strive to express the emotion invoked upon first experiencing the Maine coast: feelings of wild, rich, otherworldliness..
