CARYATID
Anna Koval
Created in 2021
This time my heroine is in Venice. Perhaps she remembers her trip to Italy or dreams of being there someday. I depicted the famous Venetian Rialto Bridge. It has an interesting story. It was first built in the 12th century. Since then, it has been destroyed many times-there have been human casualties. In the 16th century, the Rialto was reconstructed and made of stone. This is how we know it now.
A huge bridge on the shoulders of the heroine is a metaphor for the life of modern women. We carry a lot on ourselves. Daily problems, obligations, tasks lie on us like stone slabs. That's why I called the painting "Caryatid". I admire the power of women. Sometimes it seems that we really can do EVERYTHING. We often endure severe stress and major troubles with calmness and equanimity. Let the fire raging inside-but outwardly we do not show it. I wanted to give these emotions to my heroine as well. Strength, power, but at the same time fragility and grace!
