CAVE FLOWER
Francisco Letelier
Created 2012
Created on the bark from Melaleuca quinquenervia, AKA Paperbark Tree. Used for centuries by the people of Australia, Indonesia, Papau New Guinea and New Caledonia, the tree has been introduced all over the world. The artist collects and mounts the bark to canvas. This work celebrates the diverse heritage each person carries. The pattern is a reconstruction from a pre-Columbian pottery sherd. The preservation of cultural memory is prevalent in the artists’ work. Private collection Barcelona, Spain.
