"This image is a great opportunity to provide a story without having to show the whole image of a person. By doing it this way each viewer has their own version of a story. The process is started with a line drawing and then applying the gold leaf sizing directly on the raw paper, so the white glows through, keeping a lighter air to the gold. The blue jeans are achieved by layering and blending blues and grays to establish the shadows and highlights. The next step is to go back over the image with graphite pencil to resolve the shadows and balance the contrast till the presence of the image becomes established."
