DISINFECTING STATION (TRADITIONAL STILL LIFE WITH WATERMELON, CITRUS, AND LYSOL), SPRING 2020

Amy Nelder

Created in 2020

My husband Greg showed me a BBC article on Plague Art, and I reached out to a US Plague Art Historian featured in the article named Sheila Barker to tell her that I didn't realize that I had become a "plague artist" until I read the article, so as that was very interesting to me, I just wanted to connect with her through my work. It turned out that she was also the head of the Medici Archive Project and curator of a phenomenal exhibition going on at the Uffizi just then on 17th century painter Giovanna Garzoni, and she invited me to submit work to the virtual group exhibition, the "Garzoni Challenge" put on by the Medici Archive Project and Advancing Women Artists in partnership with the Uffizi Galleries.
