EL ORO
Francisco Letelier
Created 2019-2020
This work is a flag or banner hemmed on top with a wooden dowel for hanging.
El Oro was created by the artist during a Truth and Reconciliation residency at the Santa Fe Art Institute, New Mexico. The work is part of Paso del Condor, a project that reveals new viewpoints, histories and narratives about the Americas in the age of climate change. At a time when the children of economic and political refugees are held in detention camps, the work employs pop iconography (fist) and traditional materials (gold leaf) to remember that children are our most precious resource.
