"This image gave me the opportunity to twist the classic Pony Express rider by using a woman as the rider, more sign of the times. Lots of movement and details to tell the story. By using silver leaf in the background it just makes the image pop or 'run' off the page even more. The initial line drawing is masked off using frisket paper. The next step is painting the page with black ink and then the sizing for the silver leaf. The image of the gal is done with blended color pencil and then detailed with graphite to develop the contrast and detail till it has its own presence."
