Purdah is a word derived from the Persian language. It is also a word that is used in the artist's mother tongue, Urdu. Purdah means to veil, to exclude oneself from others and to wear enveloping clothing. It also means curtains. In this series, Purdah is explored symbolically by using the burqa, niqab and hijab in a myriad of creative ways as a symbol of the ultimate Other.
