"This is a classic image from a street festival in Santa Barbara, Ca. The energy and playfulness and the fantastic dresses all come together here. The process starts with a line drawing and then painting a layer of ink to serve as a dark layer behind the silver leaf. The dresses has gold leaf trim in the details, so this is a fun opportunity to use gold and silver leaf together in a context that makes sense. The details of the girls is all done with color pencil and detailed with graphite. The ground area is done with oil pastel that is mixed on the page and then blended using paint thinner to give a more intense watercolor feel."
