MOMMY MEDIATION FLYING CARPET RIDE TO PEACE
This work is inspired by a trip the artist made to Bangkok Thailand in January of 2013. While there he visited the Temple of The Reclining Buddha. The Reclining Buddha is quite enormous and beautiful. However, within the temple complex there are smaller stone images of Buddha lined up along every wall. In October of that same year, Gilmore's neighborhood experienced an eight day electrical blackout in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Everything was quiet and still. What to do? Gilmore bought the type of flashlight that miners strap around their foreheads, and began to paint a series titled: Spiritual and Sexual Intimacy in the Home. All of the paintings depicting Spiritual Intimacy are sitting in the lotus position. This work is a part of a sub series called “The Mothership.”
