MOUNTAINS AND WATER
Ilaria Cortesi
Created 2021
Mountains and Water was inspired by a common sight in Shanghai: an older man or woman dragging a tricycle full of random stuff, usually trash or discarded items they hope to resell or recycle for little money. Mountains are a main element in the traditional Chinese landscape paintings, but in this piece they take the shape of skyscrapers to signify how the most invisible members of our society are the ones carrying the burden of it.
