Sarah Williams closes her poem ‘the Old Astronomer and His Pupil’ with “I’ve loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night”. That line has always made my soul tingle. This piece, inspired by it, speaks to our ever-evolving relationship with darkness — both environmental and internal — and our supreme potential to appreciate the shadows for the stars.
