Visually inspired as much by whacked-out old cartoon backdrops as Nike ACG and artists from Stuart Davis to Nina Chanel Abney, this series deals with the absurdity of human imposition on nature. Not that we may not need these things in one way or another, but it’s this idea that when you’re surrounded and confronted by the otherworldly beauty of nature, many of our rational human concepts begin to seem so absurdly irrational. Russ began these by drawing of the main shapes on a laptop with his finger on the mouse pad, then had them printed on canvas, and went to twon painting the details and text on top.
