This photo is taken in Hasedera temple (established in the 8th century), Kamakura City, Japan. These water tubs are not rare in the gardens of various Buddhist temples throughout Japan. The rhombus is actually an identical square part of four different characters surrounding it. The characters say "I only know that enough is enough" pointing to one of the central Buddhist concepts of controlling one's desires and the ability to be content with little.
