Humans are social animals. Man is naturally oriented toward others and the benefits of connectivity are clear. However, there is a need for people to be by themselves at times. Recoil was created to capture the emotion of sinking into oneself for contemplation. It is a physical manifestation of deep thought and the protection of self, an interpretation of the bodily expression of stress roiling the inner psyche. Poised in the stillness of the pool in its meditative pose, Recoil on Water is the embodiment of reflection.
