Bronwen Hazlett
Created 2017
Hazlett’s Blue Van Dykes are created with light sensitive chemistries painted on to watercolor paper. Allowed to mix and blend with each other, the Cyanotype and Van Dyke Brown chemistries interact and create specific, purposeful, and visible reactions. Then images are “exposed” like analog photographic prints with a contact negative on a UV light box. The prints are then processed in baths of wash, fixer, and a final wash. Once dry, the print is coated with bees wax for protection and UV light blocking to prevent fading. Each original image is one-of-a-kind and could never be painted the same way twice.
