SPONGER MONEY NEVER DONE

Beatrice Oliver Gould

Created in 2020.

Inspired by Bahamian history. It is believed that Gustave Renourd, who was a Frenchman wrecked in the Bahamas waters in 1841 and in 1843 he exported the first bales of sponge. Sponging is no longer the big industry it once was and this painting is a tribute to that time and how time has changed.
