"The color scheme and contrast is inspired by a comic book artist that I really admire, Frank Miller. To use a simple color scheme, with a little extra complexity is an exciting opportunity. Impact with detail was really what I am aiming for. Dynamic action is something very exciting to illustrate The process is starting with a line drawing and then masking the image to build the background. The first layer is black ink, followed by the leaf sizing then applying the red metallic leaf, so that it looks almost painted onto the page. The next phase is adding and blending the color pencil, so that I can go back in with a graphite pencil and develop the shadows and overall contrast to achieve a tangible presence."
