WHIRLWIND IN THE THORN TREES
Mark Yale Harris
Created 2008
The idea for this piece came from the lyrics of Johnny Cash's song "The Man Comes Around." One of its main themes is the end of time. Cash sings of how the "Man" (God) will one day come to pass judgment. It was the rich symbols and striking images. Full of allusions to books of the Bible, he wrote of "The virgins are all trimming their wicks" - a reference to the virgins' preparation of the Second Coming of Christ.
It's alpha and omega's kingdom come And the whirlwind is in the thorn tree The virgins are all trimming their wicks The whirlwind is in the thorn tree It's hard for thee to kick against the pricks
