WING DE COEUR
Deborah Gavel
Created in 2016-17. Oil, beeswax, sterling silver leaf, on canvas mounted on panel.
A Rumi poem by the Sufi poet includes this sequence of words: "something opens our wings." Deborah Gavel works with themes of plants, minerals and animals in this series. The metaphors of flight and ascension are an inspiration for the feathered ones. Each piece has a story, Wing de Coeur, (Wing of Heart) is the right wing of a Barn Owl, painted to scale.
