WINGED VICTORY
Deborah Gavel
Created in 2016. Oil and aluminum leaf.
An iconic work by Gavel of a pair of Sandhill crane wings; part of a series of works on Plants, Minerals and Animals. The wings are painted with the breast bone attached as an indication of the heart of the bird. The Sandhill cranes migrate through New Mexico each year and reside over the winter near to Albuquerque, where Ms. Gavel resides. She spends time with them, in proximity to the fields they return to during daylight. Winged Victory is a reference to ascension and the miracle of flight.
